COUNSEL AND UNDERSTANDING
““With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.” — Job 12:13 (KJV)”
Every resource for wise living is found in God.
Job’s declaration was made in the midst of pain, confusion and conflicting human opinions. His friends spoke at length, yet their counsel could not fully explain what God was doing. Job recognized that perfect wisdom does not belong to the loudest voice, the most experienced person or the most educated adviser.
“With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.” God alone sees the end from the beginning and understands every hidden detail of your situation. There are moments when human counsel is helpful, but there are also moments when it reaches its limit. People can advise you according to what they know, what they have experienced or what appears reasonable. God, however, knows the motives of every heart, the consequences of every choice and the purpose He intends to accomplish. His counsel is never based on incomplete information. Therefore, do not make fear, pressure, popular opinion or personal feelings your final authority.
Counsel tells you what to do; understanding helps you discern why, when and how to do it. Both are found in God. You may know the right action and still need divine understanding concerning the right timing. You may have several good options and still require God’s wisdom to identify His best. This is why Scripture says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God” (James 1:5). God does not rebuke the sincere heart that comes to Him for direction.
When you face decisions about marriage, family, ministry, finances, health or work, begin with God. Search His Word, pray without pretending that you already know the answer, and remain willing to obey what He reveals. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to trust in the Lord rather than lean on our own understanding. Divine counsel may challenge your preferences, but it will never contradict God’s written Word.
Today, refuse to panic because people do not have all the answers. Your sufficiency is not in human intelligence but in the God whose understanding is perfect. Wait for His direction, receive His wisdom and walk in obedience. Every resource required for wise living is found in Him.
With God are wisdom, strength, counsel and understanding, and He is my portion. I lack nothing that I need. In Jesus name Amen.
