THE COUNSEL THAT OUTLIVES EVERY OPINION
““The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.””
Human opinions expire, but God’s counsel stands forever.
Opinions change with the seasons. Experts contradict one another, trends rise and fall, and yesterday’s certainty becomes today’s regret. In such a world, it is a great comfort to read that the counsel of the Lord stands for ever. The word “stands” speaks of something that cannot be toppled, revised or cancelled. What God has purposed is not a suggestion subject to market conditions; it is a settled decree.
Psalm 33 sets this truth against the backdrop of human scheming. In the verse just before this one, the psalmist says the Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing and makes the devices of the peoples of no effect. Human plans can look impressive, but they are temporary. God’s counsel, by contrast, reaches across all generations. The promises He made to our fathers in the faith are still active, and the purpose He has for your life is still standing.
Building your life on shifting opinion produces anxiety, because you must constantly adjust to the latest voice. Building on eternal counsel produces stability, because your foundation does not move. Jesus made the same point when He said that heaven and earth would pass away, but His words would not pass away (Matthew 24:35). The man who anchors his decisions to God’s words builds on rock, not sand.
Before you make any significant decision this month, ask a simple question: is this standing on what will stand? If your plan agrees with the Word and the leading of the Spirit, proceed with confidence. If it rests only on popularity, pressure or fear, pause and seek the Lord. What stands with God will outlast every storm.
The counsel of the Lord concerning my life stands forever. No opinion, no delay and no opposition can overturn what God has decreed for me. Amen.
