THE WONDERFUL COUNSELLOR LIVES IN YOU
““...and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.””
Counsel is not only what Christ gives; it is who Christ is.
Isaiah’s prophecy gives the coming Messiah a series of names, and the second one is Counsellor. Names in Scripture describe nature. Jesus does not merely offer good advice when we ask for it; He is counsel in person. Every decision He has ever made was perfect, every word He has ever spoken was true, and He sees every hidden variable in every situation you face.
In the book of Revelation, the risen Christ uses the same language. Speaking to the church in Laodicea, He says, “I counsel thee” (Revelation 3:18). That church believed it was rich and needed nothing, yet the Lord saw that it was poor, blind and naked. His counsel was to come to Him for true gold, clothing and eyesight. The Counsellor sometimes tells us what we do not want to hear, because He loves us too much to flatter us.
The writer of Hebrews reminds us that we have a High Priest who can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, and that we may come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:15-16). Your Counsellor is not distant or unsympathetic. He knows what it is to be tempted, to be tired and to face pressure, and He welcomes you into His presence without fear.
Today, invite the Wonderful Counsellor into every area of your life: your home, your work, your finances, your health and your ministry. Do not consult Him only in emergencies. Make it your habit to say, “Lord, what do You say about this?” before you act. You will be amazed how much simpler life becomes when the wisest Person in the universe is your first call.
The Wonderful Counsellor is my guide. I am never confused for long, because His wisdom is my daily portion. Amen.
