GUIDED BY HIS EYE
““I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.””
God’s guidance is personal, close and attentive.
This verse is a personal promise from God to the one who has been forgiven. Psalm 32 begins with the joy of a man whose transgression is forgiven, and then the Lord speaks: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.” Guidance flows from restored fellowship. The God who forgives is also the God who leads.
The promise to guide with the eye is beautiful. To be guided by someone’s eye, you must be close enough to see it. A parent can communicate with a child across a room with a single look, but only if the child is watching. A distant man needs strong signals, but a close man needs only a glance. Intimacy makes guidance gentle.
The next verse makes the contrast plain. The psalmist says we must not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding and must be held in with bit and bridle (Psalm 32:9). God would rather lead us with a look than with a bridle. Many of our painful experiences result from ignoring quiet signals until circumstances force us to listen. He longs for a relationship where a word or a whisper is enough.
If your direction feels foggy, the first question may not be “What is God saying?” but “How close am I?” Draw near through prayer, worship, confession and obedience. Set your eyes on Him more than on your circumstances. As you remain close, you will begin to sense His gentle steering, and you will walk with confidence in the way you should go.
I am instructed and taught by the Lord. He guides me with His eye, and I walk in the way I should go. Amen.
